Structure of thermal transfer film

1-Printing technology

The thermal transfer film is generally composed of four layers: carrier layer, ink layer, glue layer, and release layer

a. Carrier layer: The carrier layer is mainly the base film, which is a transparent film. It is the carrier of release agent, ink, and glue. The base film is generally made of PET material, which has good stability, uniform tension, and good heat and pressure resistance.

b. Ink layer: The ink is air-dried to form a pattern transferred to the surface of the substrate. That is, ink is the basis for forming the printed pattern. Thermal transfer uses gravure printing technology, and the printed pattern is colorful and bright. High-quality ink, odorless, environmentally friendly, and will not harm the body.

c. Glue layer: Glue is an adhesive. Its function is to make the ink blend on the surface of the product. Different glues should be selected according to the material of the product for products of different materials.

d. Release layer: The release agent needs to have good wear resistance, reduce ultraviolet radiation, reduce the corrosion of adverse molecules in the air, so as to extend the life of the ink and protect the ink. At the same time, it should be able to buffer the adhesion of the base film and the ink. It has the characteristics of release, film-forming, adhesion and low viscosity.

3-Technological characteristics of thermal transfer film

There are many carriers for thermal transfer film. The most widely used one is PET, which has the characteristics of good dimensional stability, uniform tension, good heat resistance and good release. Especially in the reproduction of color gradation manuscripts, it has obvious advantages. The specifications of the film, such as width, thickness and brand, are selected according to the manufacturer's requirements. At the same time, it is necessary to check the flatness of the film and whether the tube material has "protruding ribs" and "flouncing edges" that do not meet the quality requirements.
